Asian Chicken Salad

It was Joan’s on Third in Los Angeles that got me hooked on a giant bowl of Asian Chicken Salad. Here is my version.

L.A. Food: Mitsuwa Marketplace

Hi all! I’m in Los Angeles, the mecca of ethnic restaurants. I am seeking out the mom-and-pop-shops and holes-in-the-wall where the world’s best food can be found.

Today, I am at a Japanese market/food court in West LA on Venice Blvd. There are 4 places to eat and not a sushi or teriyaki in sight. Nothing but wall to wall Ramen and a little tempura.

Ginger Chicken and Broccoli

Chicken and Broccoli in Ginger Sauce

Beef and Pea Pods

Strips of steak stir fried with tender snow peas in garlic sauce, served over white rice.

Pork Fried Noodles

Strips of pork with carrots, cabbage and bamboo shoots stir fried with fresh noodles in brown sauce.

Chicken Teriyaki

Teriyaki chicken breasts with soy fried green beans and white rice.

Ginger Scallion Fish

Pan sauteed Tilapia with ginger scallion sauce and Asian rice pilaf.  According to Saveur magazine, “ginger scallion sauce is one of the greatest sauces or condiments ever. Ever. ”

Teriyaki Salmon

Sweet and tangy Teriyaki Salmon, served with an Asian version of rice pilaf.

Steak Teriyaki – Japanese Steakhouse Style

Succulent bites of ribeye steak, mushrooms, zucchini and onions, served over seasoned rice with pink “Yum Yum” sauce.

Complete the meal with salad with carrot ginger dressing for just a few dollars more.

Sweet and Sour Pork

A Chinese take-out favorite. Bites of pork, peppers, pineapple, carrots and onions, in a from-scratch tangy sweet and sour sauce with steamed rice.
